56K Dial-up Connection
I don't recommend trying to download huge movie files if you only have a dial-up connection, it just generally doesn't work out.
If you're using dail-up,and you want movies,
you may want to consider upgrading to DSL or Cable first.
It is going to take you from 8 hours up to 3 days just to download a single movie,
and that is if you're on a
56k Dial-up modem, getting 3-4 k on your download speed.
So until you get a better connection, music videos are about the biggest
files you ought to try for.
I won't go into all the different file types that are available
in any depth, I’ll just give you the short version
on some that aren't listed,
In WinMX main screen, click on “Shared Files” folder, then click on “Shared File Types”.
The extension for Open Nap Servers will be “.wsx”,if you're using v3.31, just check the corresponding box.
(don’t forget the blank space in between each extension.
You may want to add a few in here right now also, such as:
1. .doc = word document
2. .xls = excel document
3. .txt = text file(such as made in notepad, or wordpad)
4. .pdf = Adobe Acrobat Documents
5. .htm or .html (for web page made documents)
6. .pub = Publisher Documents
7. .pps = Power Point
8. .rtf = Rich text format

Also, check the boxes in the list with file types you will be looking for or adding.
(a tip here; better to have too many file types listed, rather than
not enough, as you can't download any type of file you can't see,
so you may not be able to view or access the file(s)or applications you're looking for)
Read Before You Connect
RED= Connection refused or timed out ( click server messages to find out why they didnt let you in)
Try again later, and move on to the next one(s).
ORANGE= searching and trying to connect
GREEN= Connected to that network.
When you have connected to other networks on your search screen
you will now have a search
all available networks option,
and on your chat screen you can also join chat on other networks.
Most people have 2 or 3 they stay happily connected with, and maybe 10-15 tops connected at once,
to search for brand new or hard to find file or movie.
Whatever you choose, take your time, and read the help files
on the website URL’s toward the top of this page.
The HOTLIST, An Excellent Source
The 2 very good things about the hotlist on winmx Open Nap Server Networks
is you get to access a larger variety of people who take sharing seriously.
So, more people, as well as a lot more files, and way better returns on your searches.
Also, When you add someone to your 'hotlist'
from an open nap server on Winmx,
you can select to perm add to hotlist,
and they won’t disappear when you close Winmx.
So, you find someone with 3,000 files, and you want them all,
you can upload from that person whenever they’re green in your hotlist,
just browse their files, and pick 1-2 and get in queue.
The one Downside of Open Nap Servers vs. WinMX Peer Network alone is that they don't support multi-source downloads.
Please Remember to limit to 1, 2 at most at a time from each person, not only is it proper net etiquette
but a good way to make sure you won’t get disconnected, complained about to the server administrator,
banned from a server (yes,it happens), and or put on someone's ignore list.
People will occasionally check to see if you’re sharing
files when you're in queue to upload from them, and they WILL
disconnect you if you're not sharing, or if you don't msg them asking to upload the file,
& tell them your circumstances, i.e. a bad connection.
Believe me, most
veteran WinMX users should understand that one. A lot of servers will also ban you
temporarily for sharing porn, not sharing any files (leeching), and not sharing enough files, or right type of files,
like no buffy files = banned from entering the buffy chat and file share open nap server.
Some Excellent Movie Servers Names To Look For
If you're using winmx v2.6, you'll need to enter the information as:
Network
Address
Port #
User Name=You
Password (if any)
If using Winmx 3x, then Just put the Network Name, and the address like this:
Movies.no-ip.com:8888
One last thing, if you’re looking for movies, find a server that has
movies, like
QualityMovies
(must share 5180 megs minimum, and no porn)

Cinema2002
Fantasy Movies
DarkServers(no trde only, or they'll ban you)
BlackMovie
Necessary Evil
(Must share 10 files minimum or 500 megs.)

Same thing if you’re searching for audio books, game files, programs, Apps
or MP3’s. as there are many thousands of servers.

Whether you choose to follow these guidelines or not is up to you, they are just my own personal opinions.
I have learned after more than 2 years of Continuous filesharing
You will get a lot better quality files,
faster, with less searches overall, and perhaps make some new friends
if you stick to a few simple rules on uploading and downloading.
Leech-Leeching
I don't share files, Why do I get these rude messages and do people cut me off ?
. There are programs like
Mx Monitor [WinMX v.3x only] and
Leechammer [WinMX v.3x only]. These are
handy tools that will control several functions automatically for you.
You can set up to automatically disconnect
and ignore anyone who doesn't share at least a (you choose, mine is set at 1) set # of Files.
